Boosters

8/21/2010

Welcome to the Forney Band Booster organization.  Like many other booster groups, which support many activities at the high school, we are involved with supporting the Band (including Color Guard).  “Support” is typically interpreted as “fund raising’.  While it is true that we do a certain amount of fundraising, there are also other functions served by Boosters: equipment movement and logistics, management and coordination during away trips, providing chaperones during away trips, maintenance of various equipment, etc.

Funds raised by the Boosters are returned directly to the students by way of lowered fees, Letter jackets, scholarships, subsidized trip expenses (last year to Washington, D.C.) and other activities through the year.  All of the participants in the Booster organization are volunteers and are not compensated.  The support provided by the Band Boosters exceeds the support of other organizations to such an extent that the Band Boosters provide ALL concessions for football games at City Bank Stadium (Varsity and Freshman/JV). For this reason I encourage you to set aside time for home games and assist with concessions.  The benefits to the Band are remarkable and limit extensive fundraising activity.

Boosters typically coordinate equipment for away games and assist on the field with movement of instruments, podiums and water for students during the game.  The same is true for various competitions (marching , concert, Indoor and Winter Guard) that take the band out of town.  If an overnight stay is required, Boosters will chaperone the trip and provide visible points of contact for the students, in the event they need information or help.  Band functions (e.g. Banquet, Registration, uniform measurement and dispersal) are also managed by Boosters.

Additionally, the parents, relatives and friends that participate with the Boosters have a unique opportunity to be involved with the students and directly interface with their friend’s instructors, parents and peers.  The time they have in high school is surprisingly short and it is very rewarding to participate in this part of their lives.  Many past Boosters still come to the home games and lend a hand (or just visit) and have remained “Boosters”, even after graduation.

The Boosters do far more than raise money for the students…they invest time in them and build friends and memories that will last beyond high school.

Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The most current information and planning is covered at these meetings.  There will also be email reminders and updates provided by instructors, as well as myself.

Thank you,
