Forney High School Percussion

The Forney High School percussion program is under the direction of Mr. Mario Luna and is assisted by Mr. Shannon Jacobs, University of Texas Arlington Music Education major. The percussion program offers a wide range of percussion ensembles from Indoor drumline to Caribbean ensemble. The percussion ensembles have been named the Outstanding Percussion Ensemble at the annual Tarleton State University Day of Percussion. The Caribbean ensemble was selected to perform at the State Capitol in March of 2009 as the sole percussion ensemble from the state of Texas as part of the Texas Fine Arts Education Day. The FHS Indoor Drumline is the 2008-2009 NTCA Marching Percussion Champions performing their original music composed by Shannon Jacobs “Defining Moments.” In 2009, the Forney Percussion Program started the only Percussion Festival in the DFW area which allows local schools to participate in a ensemble festival atmosphere. In 2010, the percussion ensemble won the 1st annual Black Swamp Percussion ensemble online competition. This was a nation-wide competition that picked the top three choices by judges and then later voted on youtube.com.

The FHS drumline has performed for the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Dallas Stars and New Orleans Saints functions. The drumline has been awarded Outstanding Percussion at several competitions and festivals including the Mesquite Marching Festival, Red Oak USSBA competition, Desoto Marching Contest as well as winning the Indoor Drumline caption at the 2010 Desoto Marching Contest.
